In keeping with ACPF’s
commitment to educate youth about hunting and firearm safety, the chapter
sponsors a Firearm Safety Certification Course every year. The Anoka
County Chapter offers more than 8 certified FAS instructors who work with
youth in teaching them the elements of hunting ethics, hunting and firearm
safety, game identification, first aid overview, firearm and ammunition
components, proper outfitting, and hands-on firearm instruction.
The Minnesota DNR and Anoka County Pheasants Forever
Chapter are sponsoring a firearms safety hunter education course beginning
on April 19th, 2004 at the
Beaverbrook
Tri-County Sportsmen's Club in East Bethel, MN. The purpose of the
course is:
-
to prevent firearms and hunting accidents;
-
to ensure the future of hunting and shooting sports
through compliance with laws, regulations, and ethics;
-
to emphasize the importance of wildlife management,
laws, and regulations so that students will obtain a better
understanding of their obligations to the resource, landowners, other
hunters and themselves.
There are nine sessions for 2004: April 19, 22, 26,
29, May 3, 6, 10, 13, and 17. The sessions begin at 6 PM and end at 8:15
PM. The cost is $10 per student. If you are interested, please contact
Marlyn Steinberger at 763/755-5401 prior to April 15th, 2004.
The course consists of
eight, 2-hour classroom sessions with a ninth class held at a north metro
area gun club that is devoted to hands-on firearm instruction with a
shotgun and a rifle.
The cost is $10.00 per
student and each student is required to bring a COPY of their birth
certificate and a signed parental permission slip to the first class.
Students must be age 11 or older to attend and are required to attend all
10 courses in order to obtain certification. Class size is limited
so early registration is encouraged.
